OctoClaw Setup Guide

System Requirements & Permissions

OctoClaw currently supports macOS environments only and requires root-level access for installation.

• Installation must be executed by a root user (sudo privileges required)

• Non-root users will not be able to complete the installation process

Important Note

If you attempt to install OctoClaw without root privileges:

• Installation will fail silently or stop during setup

• Background services will not initialize

Here’s a detailed guide to setup your OctoClaw Bot

Step 1: Getting Started with OctoClaw

OctoClaw is OpenLedger claw bot agent designed for:

• Multi-LLM orchestration

• Secure local execution of AI workflows

• Autonomous crypto operations via integrations

Click the "Get Started" button to begin the setup process.

Step 2: Choosing a Provider and Model

Select the AI provider you wish to use as your OctoClaw bot's core intelligence layer.

OctoClaw supports multiple inference providers:

• Anthropic (Recommended)

• OpenAI

• Google (Gemini)

• Mistral

• Groq

• Cohere

• Together AI

• OpenRouter

• Ollama (local models)

Pick your preferred model iteration from the MODEL dropdown menu.

Click Continue to proceed to authentication.

Model Recommendation (Claude Sonnet 4.6) - For the best performance and most reliable results, we recommend using models from Anthropic, particularly the Claude series.

Step 3: API Key Input

• You must provide a valid API key for your chosen model to execute tasks.

• Click the console link located directly below the input field if you need to generate a new key from the provider's website.

• Paste your active API key into the designated text field.

• Wait for the system to detect a valid key format, which will activate the installation button and turn it orange.

• Click the Install OctoClaw -> button to deploy your OctoClaw bot.

Step 4: Installing OctoClaw

• Wait while the app downloads and sets up the required services.

• Check for a green tick to confirm the installation is successful.

Step 6: Accessing the Dashboard

• The Chat interface is the primary execution environment.

• Verify your currently active AI model at the bottom left corner of the screen.

• Use the central input box to type direct messages or execute commands.

Step 7: Connecting External Apps

• Go to CONNECT APPS and click CONNECT on the Telegram card.

• Open Telegram → search @BotFather → send /newbot → follow the prompts.

• Copy the API token provided.

Step 8: Link & Verify Telegram

• Paste the token into the Telegram integration in OctoClaw.

• Click Connect to complete setup.

• Confirm the CONNECTED status appears on the Telegram card.

• Start chatting with your OctoClaw bot directly from your mobile device.

Note: Conversations made through the OctoClaw application will not be reflected in your telegram chat. Conversations made through Telegram will be reflected in the OctoClaw Application.

Step 9: Exploring Agent Skills

• Navigate back to the sidebar and open the SKILLS tab.

• Add modular integrations to exchanges and other data providers, such as Binance, for executing trades or to access any other information.

• Click CONNECT to begin enabling the OctoClaw bot to perform granular actions and analytics.

Step 10: Exchange Setup & Activation

• Select your exchange and review the configuration. Enter your API Key and Secret Key (Generate your API Key and Secret Key from your exchange account (e.g., Binance API settings).

• Choose and enable the required skill modules (Spot, Convert, Margin, etc.).

• Click Connect after verifying credentials and permissions.

• Wait for authentication and module installation; keep the app open during syncing.

• Once completed, a green ACTIVE tag confirms the integration and active modules.

Step 11: Interacting with the OctoClaw Bot

• Navigate back to the CHAT menu to access the primary chatting interface.

• Use slash commands to quickly interact with your OctoClaw bot's newly connected skills.

• Click on the quick prompt pills, such as "What can you do?", to test its advanced capabilities.

• Review the OctoClaw bot's comprehensive responses, which will now display its active capabilities ranging from Personal Assistant functions to active Crypto Trading and System integrations.

Disclaimer: Your Telegram bot can execute actions on your behalf. If you add it to public groups or share access, others may send commands that trigger trades or actions. This can lead to loss of funds.

Keep your bot private and do not share access.

Step 12: Viewing Your Balance

• Click on the BALANCE section located on the main left-hand sidebar menu.

• Your overall usage and credits can be tracked here.

Disclaimer: 1. If an older version of Node.js is installed on the system, the installation may fail.

2. For better results, prefer the Claude Sonnet provider.

3. After terminating and reopening the application, the chat screen may take some time to reload.
